LOST BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Nothing lasts forever, doesn't it? Ever since the introduction of television in the late 1920s, hundreds of millions (if not, billions or even higher) of tv shows have been created and produced for your viewing pleasure, wether they be sitcoms, dramas, cartoons, talk shows, game shows, or news programs. Unfortunately, a large majority of these shows have become lost media over the years - some had their master tapes wiped, destroyed, or misplaced (either on purpourse or on accident), whilst others were never archived. This article will focus on 8 of these missing shows; programs that were made before the invention of the kinescope (e.g. The Television Ghost, coverage of both the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the 1939 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Piano Lessons, and Hariett Lee's variety show) are omitted from this article due to being lost to history, as no methods existed to preserve them. Let's get started.

The Beagles (CBS-TV, 1966-1967)

The Beagles was a half-hour cartoon show that aired as part of CBS' Saturday morning lineup from September 1966 to January of 1967. The show followed singers Tubby (voiced by Allen Swift) and Scotty (voiced by Sandy Becker) as they promoted their music via publicity stunts that were proposed by their talent agent Scotty (also Swift). Although the series was a hit in the ratings, the network cancelled it after only 36 shorts were produced. This would end up being the last cartoon that was created and produced by Total Televison Prodcutions, as the company ceased operations in 1969. After the show's cancellation, the series aired on ABC from September 1967 to September of 1968, where it was last seen. As of 2024, only one color episode (along with two incomplete B/W story arcs) appear to have survived.
